This Silver set provides an early intervention for children who need additional support in developing their social, emotional and behavioural skills. It is aimed at children in Years 1 and 2 and links to the Blue set. The ideas in the materials could also be adapted, however, to provide group work for children in Year 3 and in the Foundation Stage.

This theme is the second of two focusing specifically on feelings. It explores feelings within the context of our important relationships including family and friends. The theme aims to develop knowledge,
understanding and skills in three key social and emotional aspects of learning:self-awareness, managing feelings and empathy.
In addition, there is a focus throughout the theme on helping children understand the feelings associated with an experience that we all need to cope with at some time: that of loss – whether of a favourite possession, a friend, a family home, or a loved one.

The overview contains scripted and interactive assemblies, as well as learning outcomes from nursery-Y6.

Note that the handouts and other resources are within a separate booklet, entitled 'A place to learn' (resource sheets)'.

Note also that although this theme booklet is entitled 'theme 1' on the cover, it is actually an introductory theme to be used during the first few weeks of Y7, to support the setting up of a positive learning group, enable pupils to get to know each other, and establish good relationships between the tutor and group. There is no equivalent for Y8 and Y9.
