A primary/early secondary assembly called Random Acts of Kindness

A lovely assembly that children can perform. It tells the story of Danny Wallace and his accidental group that did random acts of kindness. As many or as few children as you like can perform it and they can make Join Me posters to hold up as they go on stage. Gets the children thinking about what they could do to support others. Love and loss

Here we have a lovely primary assembly or lesson about love and loss, based on the book ‘The Heart and the Bottle’ . It comes from the TES website and was created by jdelaney for the SEAL ‘Relationships’ theme. There is an assembly outline and a slide show of key words in the theme. Plus we have  a primary drama lesson based on the thought-provoking story The Saddest King , created by Natalie Smith of Uplands Primary school,  and a KS2 lesson plan to help children understand death. For secondary there is a PowerPoint lesson about bereavement and how it should be handled.

Research based on Carol Dweck's theories has shown that even short programmes to teach children that intelligence is not fixed, but can be changed  can have a significant effect of secondary students' attainment. Stress, relaxation and positive thinking - secondary resources for Learning about Me

In this selection we have first Massonet's meditation - a brilliant set of slides with music on a loop, to help children learn to become calm and focus. Great new primary lessons for Good to be Me

A bumper crop of friendship assemblies

Here we have a fantastic collection of slideshows and scripts for assemblies which support the SEAL themes Getting on and falling out, and Learning to be together.  There's:

- a secondary slideshow of great quotes on friendship, with transitions designed so that it runs about the same time as Lloyd Cole and the Commotions Brand New Friend. Going for goals, making resolutions and resilience new primary planning and resources for 2016

For primary we have first an interesting powerpoint from Studenth (thank you) introducing pupils to the concept of reflective practice, through writing a review of the year and New Year's resolutions. It takes them through four common steps of reflective practice - recall, evaluation, analysis and forming an action plan. Aimed at upper KS2, this could be adapted for younger KS2 pupils. Plus there's another New Year resolution slideshow,with VCOP!

New 2017 stuff for Going for Goals- new year resolutions, setting goals, resilience, learning to fail

 

Here you will find a Reception PowerPoint about perseverance from Floreat's character programme, and then for Key Stage 1 a sheet to use for new year resolutions and wishes for children themselves and the wider community. Robins aren't just for Christmas. The Michael Morpurgo Coming Home story, read by the author at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RslbtKSrrns is just brilliant for helping children to explore ways of not giving up in the face of difficulties.

New transitions compendium

In this compendium we have a bumper set of Transition ideas for all ages as they move from class to class or school to school, a Y6 lesson on transition and managing change from Katie Jump (thank you!) and some fabulous resources and scheme of work from the brilliant Ruth Frost, SEAL Coordinator at a Torfaen school in Wales. The scheme (Y7 term 1 SOW) can be on transition days in Y6 when children visit their new secondary school. Many of the activities could also be used when they start in Y7.

Understanding loss and death

There is a very sensitive ‘Death and new life’ assembly or lesson. Uploaded by Ian Forsyth , it draws on his own experience of losing his grandmother and invites children to think about their own losses and make a class memory basket. This resource will help children understand the feelings they may experience and understand that loss and sadness are part of living.
